Smart Air is an analytical tool to help television channels study their recent broadcasting schedule and programming policy. Users have access to extensive information on current and past broadcasts. They can view almost instantaneously a recording of a programme, its history and description, ratings, and related promotional materials or graphics. This integrated “knowledge” makes it possible to cut back on routine operations and gives a clear picture of the quality of the programming policy.
HTS Smart Air was built to increase the workflow efficiency in analysis and planning the airtime schedule. To deal with this task, we have combined viewing of recorded media, linked with airtime schedule, and descriptive metadata for the programs, announces, graphics and ratings.
System allows synchronized working with descriptive metadata in both text and graphical forms, and with video, audio and auxiliary data, such as subtitles.

Usage of recorded media data
HTS Smart Air allows to set up recording of one or several broadcast channels. These could be TV company’s own channels or competitor channels which are used for comparative analysis. Recording could be made either from output signal of broadcast equipment room, or from network IP streams. Along with video, large amount of associated technical data is being recorded: multi-channel audio, LKFS values, subtitles and teletext, ad insertion marks.
Consolidation of all available data sources
Deploying of HTS Smart Air solves task of collecting and normalizing existing metadata sources. Particularly, information is collected on the advertising blocks and clips, with exact titles and ad agency identifiers. For announces and internal promotion it is possible to provide information on the promo campaign, on relations between promo clips and the program being promoted, with link to the ratings data.
Search through all available metadata
Due to usage of relational database, Smart Air has the functionality of searching and filtering descriptive metadata. There is multi-criteria searching, which allows to combine various metadata fields. Searching is fast due to optimized database structure, even on large amount of data it takes only a few seconds.
Making text and graphical reports
It is obvious that normal operation of the planning department is impossible without quality reports, either in printed or in electronic form. Smart Air has adopted Microsoft Office tools, which combines high quality with the simplicity of adjusting report forms. In fact, all analytic features available in Microsoft Word and Excel are also available in Smart Air.

Control of subtitles and regional ad insertion points
In addition to recording video and audio, auxiliary metadata is also recorded which is embedded into the input signal. This includes decoding and visualization of subtitles and teletext data, and frame accurate recoding of ad insertion points. Recoding of these auxiliary services allows controlling quality and volume of broadcasted programs with subtitles, and provides additional features for searching and indexing of recorded programs. For ad insertion points, all technical data is stored which is transmitted in corresponding SCTE packet.
Simple web client for viewing recorded material over Internet
Those who do not need all features of Smart Air desktop version can use web application for simple browsing and playback of the recorded material. It can work in the corporate network or through the Internet.

What is required to run Smart Air?
HTS Smart Air requires standard server, its configuration depends on the number of recorded channels and storage time.
Client applications can run on any regular workstation or laptop, which is connected to the corporate network.
